Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions, we have answers! Below are some of the most common questions that we receive in our field. If you don't find an answer to your question, feel free to give us a ring!

What kind of jobs does Total Security cover?

For a complete list of our services, be sure to check out the Services tab, but briefly, we cover car, house and office lockouts, lock changes, lock installation, lock rekeys, lock repairs, cutting/duplicating and programming car keys for virtually all vehicles, key extractions, master key systems, sasfe, mailboxes, garage door locks, cabinet locks, evictions. and more.

Do I have to buy the locks myself before the technician arrives?

Definitely not! When our technicians arrive on-site, they are fully equipped with a wide range of top-quality locksmith products. This means that you won't have to run out to Home Depot beforehand! Any parts that we install are guaranteed for an incredible 90-day period from the date of service (see the Warranty section on our Services page for more information on this topic). The residential and commercial lock types that we carry come from brand names that you trust, like Medeco, Kwikset, Schleg, and Baldwin, to name a few. For more information on which lock type is best suited to your needs, just ask!

Will I be able to open all of my locks with the same key?

Absolutely! If all of your locks are the same brand, we can definitely key them to the same key. In order to see if this is a possibility for you, try the common key in each of the locks. If it goes all the way in (even if it does not turn), then it can be done. If not, you may need to purchase new lcoks so that they are all from the same company.

What is rekeying and when would I request this service?

Rekeying is when a locksmith replaces the tumblers (also known as pins) in a lock cylinder so that it can be opened by a new key. Once a lock has been rekeyed, the old key will no longer work on it. Some of the reasons why you might want to rekey a lock include the following: when buying a new property, in the event someone steals your keys, if you are unsure of how many keys have been made and given out on a property, when you have made an employee change or if you feel uncomfortable for any reason about the security of your home or office.

When do I need to purchase new locks?

You only need to purchase new locks if yours are in poor condition or not working at all, or if you want to upgrade the lock quality. With good quality locks, it is usually possible to repair the mechanism rather than replace it, which save you money!

Can you cut me a car key on the spot or do I need to have my vehicle towed to you?

We are a 100% mobile company, sao we will always come to you! It would be incredibly expensive for you to have you car towed anywhere (including to the dealer!), so we can help you reduce costs by meeting you on-site, as our trip charge to send out a technician is only $15, where towing can cost upwards of $200. Our technicians come with all of the equipment and devices needed to cut and program you a new key from scratch if you have lost yours. If what you need is a spare key, we can also clone the existing one for you.

What is a master key system and how does it work?

A master key system in one where a set of lockscan be opened each by their own individual key, as well as by a separate key that works on all the locks (this is called a master key). The individual keys only work on a single lock, while the master key can open all of them. In order for this system to work, all of the locks must be made by the same manufacturer or in the very least have common "keyways." This is a common option for large apartment and office buildings.
